Yuma flavours

A new pattern, a new journey.
Welcome Yuma by Akua, a very nice pattern for the weekly challenge.

A nice, flowing pattern, which is elusive almost by nature. No strict "rules" of where to put the lines, and a flow that is created by the artist, and not as a direct "following of the pattern".

How do I know? because several attempts showed me the inherent (and sometimes hidden) tension between a pattern and an artist.
Anybody can follow strict rules and create a pattern. And some patterns will look just fine.
But for the "wow", for the flow, for the intricacies and complexities - for this you need an artist hand and an artist eye. Some of it can be gained by practice, and it seems that some is just gifted to us in different measures.

The weekly challenge for me is a fascinating place to experience this spectrum - between pattern and art. With so many degrees of freedom in the middle.

Here is my two creations for this week. The first is using YUMA in the traditional way, while the second is inspired bu YUMA to and something different is created.

  1. These are both very beautiful creations. I think the second one really captures the "wow" factor.

  2. I think you've really taken Yuma and transformed it beautifully in both tiles. I really love the first one and the second is a very clever take on the original. Axxx

  3. Very creative versions of Yuma. Love the shading and the color in the second tile. It is very striking. Love the color-filled aura concept. Well done, Omer.

  4. Love the way you stacked the "pods" of yuma on the right side of your first one Omer, as well as your other tangleations. Your second if just really fun and out of the box! Lovely work!

  12. Wasn't it you recently saying you weren't an artist? Bah... I think both of your variations are splendid. I so enjoy looking at the different ways people interpret a tangle, and love it when they are so different from the mainstream. Well done, Omer.

  14. Omer, you hit it right on the head, about why this pattern is tricky to master. Elusive. We want to "follow the rules" but this pattern is much more guided by the artist and we get to flow with it, so we (I) get stumped.
Your colored version is so nice. I love the aura'ed shapes around your Yuma leaves, and your color palette is pleasing to look at.
In the first tile, that middle version of yuma is very cool. Well done
