Crown

The "Rain" pattern and I had to play some hide-and-seek before we finally met for the Diva challenge #168.
For me,  a great example to the creative flow, and the roadblocks that appear in it. I find that my wish here is flexibility and movement. Always maintain the flow.
I notice that this is very different from my previous drawing attempts, where an unsuccessful drawing would always end up in leaving drawing altogether...

And here are some things that I sketched along the way.

And couple more, with added colors (Copic Ciao markers)

The ocean - something completely different

It started with a circle, and suddenly appeared a shark. The rest came by itself ...
The interesting thing is that my daughter joined with her Copic Ciao markers, and gave me a coloring lesson.
Here is end result, and the original doodle.
Copic markers are great fun

String of lights

Another "flow" using the same circular pattern as I used in the Jellyfish, but this time with the Sakura Micron pens. This allows a lot of details and fine patterns.

Jellyfish - freestyle flow

After all the Punzel exploration, I felt I want to just flow with the pencil. I used a basic pattern of circles and here is the result.

Punzel cradle - more explorations with Punzel

More experiments today with this pattern. This time I found myself exploring the boundaries (the "D" drawing in the below), and from there emerged the "cradle" drawing, which also involved some exploration of line width and "filled vs. empty".

Punzel Jungle

I find that I am attracted to the "Punzel" pattern, and specifically to the "horn" or "tooth" that I see as the basic building block of the pattern.

So as part of the exploration process, another drawing emerged - Punzel Jungle

It grew by itself. I was not aiming at anything in particular (like the Zentangle saying - "one line at a time"). I did make an effort to leave some white flowing spaces. Then I realized I have a tropical jungle :)

I like the result, with its organic feel. I also like the "trunk" with the 005 lines.

I am still puzzled with the shading or "filling" - the lower right hand side "leaves" look a bit empty, and I wonder what it requires - ideas and comments are more than welcome !

Ebony and Ivory

(being the first post in this shiny brand new blog, a bit of background is due ...)

Drawing: the latest frontier. These are the voyages of Omer. His life-long mission: to explore strange new creativity worlds, to seek out new expression forms and new inspirations, to boldly go where he has never gone before ...

Ah, drawing. If I had a penny for every paper I threw to the trash, and another penny for the frustration I experienced. So many times I tried. And so many times I miserably failed.

several weeks ago, I somehow stumbled upon pinterest.com, and there I accidentally saw something that caught my attention. It was black and white (which I love), minimalistic (love), beautiful (love love love). It looked like a combination of doodling and Escher, with patterns and flows. Striking beauty. Essence. 3D. Wow !!! I was in awe.

Long story short - I grabbed a pencil and tried it myself. And lo and behold, under my pencil emerged a drawing. I almost couldn't believe my eyes.
Maybe I got lucky? Tried another one - another success.

This started an amazing journey. I found myself using pinterest and youtube and blogs, discovering the doodling art, Zentangle, sketching, patterns, shading. I experienced an accelerated learning curve. Shortly after I grabbed a set of Copic ink liners and from there the pile of papers and drawings on my desk keeps growing :)

Viewing other people's art, and especially tutorials and videos, is my main learning method.
As these are my baby steps, I need to practice and gain this magical hand precision. I need to learn the basics - how to use a pencil, a pen. How to draw shapes. "From the beginning".

I started following the Diva's weekly challenge, and decided that I'm going to actively participate. Not a simple decision I can assure you, as many of the regular participants are nothing short of amazing artists.

This week is challenge #167 - making a drawing out of two distinct patterns.
I discovered that both patterns are outside my comfort zone, and it took me some serious trial and error until I started getting something out of my attempts.

Here is the drawing I submitted :

And here are couple more drawings, all created as part of exploring the "Punzel" pattern
